Girls Academic Leadership Academy has been selected for a chance to participate in Girls Build Los Angeles. Girls Build LA is a program where groups of girls in middle school and high school try to do something that benefits their community. We decided to focus on College Access and STEM Education, because only 24% of women are in STEM. In 2014, only 3% of high school girls were interested in engineering. Men have been getting higher SAT scores than women in math for the past 40 years. The numbers are even worse for Native Americans and women of color. To try to even out the playing field, and encourage girls to follow their passions, we are writing a book of short stories. The book is going to be around 50 pages long, with illustrations. Young girls aren't seeing many female role models that are into STEM, which causes men to dominate those job positions. Team BTW is trying to change that. We will keep you posted on events and release dates. Follow our social media to find this out ahead of time.
